Suburbs with the biggest blocks in Hobart
Granton has the biggest house blocks, with a median of 1,436 m². These 15 suburbs came from a field of 46 eligible Hobart suburbs.
This ranking orders Hobart suburbs by the median land area of a house block: every lot in the suburb that holds a single address, measured from the state's land titles map. Strata and dual-occupancy sites are left out, so a block of flats does not count as one big block.
Suburbs whose median block is over 2,000 m² are listed separately as acreage, because ranked together they would fill the whole list with semi-rural land on the edge of the city. A suburb needs at least 1,000 residents and 50 house blocks to be ranked, and between 15 and 60 single-address lots per 100 residents: fewer means mostly apartments, more means mostly industry. Lots come from the state land titles maps of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT; Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not publish theirs openly, so there is no ranking there.

Common questions about this ranking
What are the suburbs with the biggest blocks in Hobart?
Granton has the biggest house blocks, with a median of 1,436 m². These 15 suburbs came from a field of 46 eligible Hobart suburbs.
How is block size measured for Hobart suburbs?
From the state land titles map: every lot in the suburb that holds exactly one address, with its area calculated from the lot boundary. The figure is the median of those lots, so half the suburb's house blocks are bigger and half smaller. Strata lots and blocks shared by several addresses are left out.
Why are acreage suburbs listed separately?
Suburbs whose median block is over 2,000 m² are mostly semi-rural land on the edge of the city. Ranked together with suburban streets they would fill the whole list, so they have a list of their own.
Why is a suburb I know has big blocks missing?
A suburb needs at least 1,000 residents and 50 house blocks, and between 15 and 60 single-address lots per 100 residents. Fewer means the suburb is mostly apartments with a few large commercial lots; more means it is mostly industry. Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not publish their land titles maps openly, so suburbs there are not ranked.
